Looking for pet dog? In that case, you must first and foremost decide which breed are you interested in. Some breeds of dogs don’t mix well with people while others just can’t have enough of company. Which is why you need to sit and decide which breed suits you and your family. In case you are looking for a big friendly dog, Saint Bernard is the dog for you.

Saint Bernard’s aren’t your average sized dogs whom you can raise without much effort. This breed of dogs require extra attention, not only in terms of the love and care but also in terms of grooming, diet, health wise and otherwise as well. At the outset, these dogs grow up to about 27 inches and 25 inches in cases of males and females respectively. Majority of their body is generally covered with white fur although the area around their eyes has a darker style of fur. Coat varies from smooth short hair to long rough hair. Based on their coat, you need to decide the frequency of brushing and grooming them. If you aren’t regular in doing this, you can be rest assured that there’ll be a lot of hair all around the house.

Saint Bernard is quite a lovable mutt. If you can ensure that they are trained in their starting years, later on they will be quite obedient and will not be much of a trouble even when guest show up at your place. However, sometimes they can be moody but with some attention and an extra effort you can get him to obey you easily. They learn quickly and hence should be trained as soon as possible.

Lastly, you need to take care of your pet’s health. In case of this breed, you need to take special care as their diet is more than a regular dog and so is their requirement of exercise. However, don’t exhaust them or else he may have hyperthermia due to his thick coat. Be regular in your visits to the Vet in order to have a healthy pet by your side.
